The Hague Tribunal has selected a trial chamber to decide on whether the trials of Stojan Zupljanin and Radovan Karadzic should be combined. The trial chamber includes Judges O-Gon Kwon, Iain Bonomy, and Kevin Parker. According to the Tribunal, the prosecution and defense will have until December 19 to debate the suitability of the members of the trial chamber in question. Hague to rule on unifying Karadzic, Zupljanin cases On December 3, Zupljanin petitioned the Tribunal to join his case with Karadzic’s in the interests of a fair and just trial. His submission to the court states that the defense believes that combining the cases will help the trial chamber better understand the historical background at the time of the events that the two suspects are accused of responsibility for. Zupljanin’s case was joined with Mica Stanisic’s case in September. Zupljanin was arrested on June 11, in Pancevo, nine years after he was indicted. He is accused of crimes against humanity and violating the rules and customs of war on the territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1992. Karadzic was arrested in July and is accused of the most gruesome crimes committed in Bosnia-Hercegovina, including the massacre of 8,000 Bosniaks in Srebrenica.
