Donald Trump's "ultimate" defeat
Pakistani news networks described Trump’s announcement of a two‑week halt to U.S. attacks on Iran as Donald Trump’s ‘ultimate’ surrender.
Pakistani networks reported on Wednesday, shortly after Trump announced on his platform Truth Social that he had agreed to a ceasefire, provided that Tehran reopens the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, calling the decision a “bilateral ceasefire agreement.”
Iran, for its part, declared it a “historic and crushing defeat” for the U.S. and Israeli regimes after 40 days of conflict, announcing that Washington had been forced to accept Iran’s 10-point proposal, which includes a permanent ceasefire, the lifting of all sanctions, and the withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from the region.
The announcement of the two-week ceasefire came after at least 99 waves of decisive Iranian retaliatory strikes against sensitive and strategically important U.S. and Israeli targets across the region.
It also led the Islamic Republic to close the Strait of Hormuz to its adversaries and their allies, causing shockwaves in global energy and commodity markets.
In a statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the Islamic Republic would halt its defensive strikes if unprovoked attacks against the country are stopped, a position announced on behalf of the council by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He said Iran would cease its defensive operations under those conditions and allow safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for a period of two weeks, coordinated with its armed forces.
Araghchi also thanked Pakistan for its efforts to help de‑escalate the situation and bring about negotiations.
