Horrific bombing: Israel attacks Damascus; Horrifying footage released PHOTO/VIDEO
Israeli forces have hit the Defense Ministry building in Damascus, Syrian media reports. It is not yet known whether there are any casualties or the extent of the damage, CNN reports.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it had launched a drone strike on the Syrian capital Damascus this morning, hitting the entrance to a Syrian military command post.
A warning strike had been carried out earlier on the entrance.
Defense Minister Israel Katz then warned that the IDF would step up its attacks unless Syrian forces withdrew from the Druze-majority town of Sweida, where deadly clashes have erupted.
"Now comes the painful acts," Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said after the attack, vowing to protect members of the Druze community in Syria.
He added that the Israeli military would continue to operate strongly in Sweida to destroy the forces that attacked the Druze.
"Our Druze brothers in Israel, you can count on the Israel Defense Forces to protect your brothers in Syria. Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu and I, as defense minister, will fulfill our oaths," Katz said.
Several airstrikes targeted the military headquarters building in Damascus, live television footage showed. The Israeli military confirmed that the building was hit.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that earlier today they had attacked the Syrian capital, Damascus, with a drone, and that the entrance to the Syrian military command was hit.
The statement said that the Israeli military continues to monitor developments and activities against Druze civilians in southern Syria, the Times of Israel reported.
A video from Syrian television shows the Syrian Ministry of Defense building being hit, forcing the anchor to take cover.
Earlier today, Israeli drones also targeted the Syrian town of Sweida, where clashes between Syrian government troops and local Druze fighters continued.
Clashes between Syrian government troops and local Druze fighters continued in the southern Syrian town of Sweida, just hours after a ceasefire was announced.
The Druze spiritual leadership called on armed factions to cooperate with government forces, not to resist their entry, and to hand over their weapons to the Interior Ministry.
Clashes had previously broken out between Bedouin militants and armed Druze, and the Israeli military confirmed attacks on several tanks in the area, warning that the Druze were not being targeted.
