Vučić: "The world belongs to everyone, not just the powerful; We need the Non-Aligned Movement more than ever"

Vučić addressed all those present during the plenary session and, at the beginning of his speech, thanked the participants, stressing that he was pleased to have the opportunity to host all the participants of the Commemorative Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The President of Serbia recalled that the main motto of the Non-Aligned Movement is that the world belongs to everyone, not only to those who wield political and military power.

“At a time when the foundations of the global order are being shaken by waves of selective approaches to international law, the Non-Aligned Movement remains the most important refuge of multilateralism, defending the idea that the world must belong to everyone,” he stressed.

“The Non-Aligned Movement is committed to the UN Charter, under which every country has an equal voice. Serbia is preserving the legacy of the first Non-Aligned conference. I would particularly like to express my gratitude to the vast majority of countries for supporting Serbia in preserving its territorial integrity. Our partnerships are not merely a reminder of a glorious past; they represent an effective alliance,” Vučić said.

“This city knows your flags and your struggle, and with the same passion shares your belief in a better and fairer future for humanity,” the Serbian president added.

He also said that the movement remains committed to the principle of multilateralism and that it is needed today more than ever, despite the fact that many believe it has become outdated.

He recalled the historical context in which the Non-Aligned Movement was founded, as well as what he described as the rule of the stronger in today’s world.

“We are witnessing new wars and armed conflicts, growing distrust among the major powers, disruptions in trade flows, climate change... That is why we must join forces and stand together in defense of a just and free international order. Brothers and sisters, some would say that the Non-Aligned Movement is outdated and that we should allow the great powers to bring us together. I say that this is a misconception and that we must come together ourselves,” Vučić said.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić today expressed his deep gratitude for the fact that a large number of Non-Aligned Movement member states have consistently respected Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, providing strong support for the preservation of its constitutional order and the protection of its national interests on the international stage.

“Our sincere understanding and mutual solidarity demonstrate that our long-standing partnerships are not merely a memory of a glorious past. They represent a living and effective alliance that has proven itself at every historic moment,” Vučić said, opening the Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Belgrade.

He said that those who founded the Non-Aligned Movement did not create a political alliance, but laid solid foundations for the most democratic platform within the United Nations, where decisions are not made in exclusive chambers of the great powers, but through genuine dialogue among all those who share the same dream of freedom.

The Serbian president also recalled what he described as the unforgettable words of Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah: “Let us organize ourselves, not so that we may become part of a divided world, but so that we may recreate it as a community of free people.”

“Sukarno reminded us that the voice of small nations is stronger than any arsenal of weapons. The position of Yugoslavia, and consequently Serbia, was that peace is not preserved through fear, but through continuous dialogue, mutual respect and the unwavering sovereignty of every country,” Vučić said.

He said that Serbia, with particular emotional and historical pride, preserves the noble legacy of the 1961 Belgrade Conference, remaining a faithful ally of the principles jointly championed by the Non-Aligned Movement.
