Uganda’s Vice President also addressed the gathering

Following Vučić’s address, Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo spoke to those present.

At the beginning of her address, Alupo thanked everyone for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings from the President of Uganda.

She noted that Karl Marx had spoken of five systems of society, ranging from capitalist to slave-owning systems, which were present around the world during his time.

Djurić delivers opening remarks

During the opening session, Foreign Minister Marko Djurić welcomed those present and extended a warm welcome to the participants.

“The legacy of this conference remains highly important today, at a time when there are once again so many conflicts around the world,” Djurić said.

Vučić: “History returns to where it all began”

Vučić said on Monday that, on the 65th anniversary of the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, Belgrade would once again bring together world leaders around universal values that are needed today more than ever.

“History returns to where it all began, in our Belgrade, from where a powerful message of peace, equality, mutual respect and understanding among nations was sent many years ago,” Vučić stressed.

The gathering in Belgrade is an opportunity to reflect on the historical legacy of the Belgrade Conference and once again reaffirm a shared commitment to the United Nations Charter, international law and the spirit of multilateralism in addressing global challenges, the Serbian government said earlier.

The meeting also provides an opportunity to recall the historic contribution of the countries that founded the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as to consider its lasting legacy amid a complex and dynamic international environment.

Following a decision by the Serbian government last year, September 1 has been observed in Serbia as Non-Aligned Movement Day, further highlighting the historical significance of the Belgrade Conference and its contribution to the development of contemporary international relations.

The first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement began on September 1, 1961, in Belgrade, in what was then the building of the Federal Executive Council and is now the Palace of Serbia.
