IMF: Achievements so far "encouraging and promising"

Head of the IMF delegation James Roaf said that the positive evaluation of Serbia's reform efforts that the country had received from all international financial institutions was "very encouraging and positive development was obvious."

Roaf said "believes that the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia would not affect the continuation of reforms."

He added that reduction of public debt, rationalization and structural reforms were the biggest challenges for Serbia, but achievements so far were "encouraging and promising."

Vucic said that by the next visit of the IMF mission in Belgrade "the Serbian government and he personally will be engaged aimed at further successful implementation of the process of rationalization of the public sector."

The meeting focused on restructuring of companies, including the Electric Power Industry of Serbia, Serbian Railways, Srbijagas and RTB Bor, the government said.

Vucic has been quoted as saying he was "proud of the results in the fiscal deficit, and added that, despite the difficult talks on state-owned enterprises and the issue of privatisation of the remaining ten companies in the restructuring, all of Serbia's obligations will be fulfilled within the agreed timeframe, with his personal engagement."

"The intention is to continue working hard in order to increase the gross domestic product and stabilize the public debt. In addition to rationalization, privatization of enterprises will be our main task in the coming period," he said.
