Trump administration admits: Serious tensions inside the White House

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Wiles painted an unfavorable picture of the roles played by some of Trump’s close associates, while describing Trump himself as a president who has “the personality of an alcoholic” and is “prone to seeking revenge against imagined enemies,” Reuters reports.

Wiles, the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff, also said that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has been “a conspiracy theorist for an entire decade.”

She described his shift from being a Trump critic to joining his supporters as “a kind of political decision, driven by his Senate campaign rather than by principles.”

Wiles criticized the way billionaire Elon Musk dismantled the U.S. Agency for International Development, the initial response of Attorney General Pam Bondi to the planned release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, and confirmed that she had warned Trump against pardoning the most violent participants in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The White House chief of staff also said that she pressured Trump to delay his decision on sweeping trade tariffs, but, by her own account, failed to change his mind in any case.

She expressed the belief that the administration should have exercised greater oversight in the process of deporting immigrants who are illegally in the country in order to avoid mistakes.

“He (Trump) has the personality of an alcoholic. Trump does not drink, but he operates with the attitude that there is nothing he cannot do,” Wiles said, explaining that growing up with an alcoholic father prepared her to manage “large personalities.”
