President would not support ex-FM as UN secgen candidate

In an interview for Belgrade-based Blic newspaper, Nikolic said that, if given the top UN job, Jeremic "would not think about Serbia but about his own career."

Asked whether Jeremic should be Serbia's candidate, Nikolic said the former foreign minister's statement ahead of the UNESCO vote on Pristina's bid to join the organization was "very cynical, something he should not have done."

"He said it was actually so easy, and that (Serbia's) authorities were preparing to glorify their victory if they won, and say (the vote) happened under abnormal circumstances if they lost. Although a year ago I told him he had my support, this now was a sign that he would not think about Serbia but about his own career."

Nikolic had this message for Jeremic: "Mr. Jeremic, you do not have my support - let whoever wants to support you."
