Slovenia wants to leave NATO and the WHO?

The new Speaker of the Slovenian Parliament and leader of the Resni.ca party, Zoran Stevanović, stated that his party supports a referendum on leaving NATO and the World Health Organization, as well as a referendum on leaving the European Union.

However, as he added, such a referendum would likely not be positively received by the Slovenian public.

In an interview for TV Slovenia, he explained that Slovenia “has significantly more benefit from the EU than without it.”

“Ljubljana must return as the main decision-making center for Slovenia; it must not be Brussels,” Stevanović said, who is of Serbian origin.

Leaving the WHO was an election promise of the Resni.ca party, and according to Stevanović, the party intends to fulfill all of its promises.

He denied reports by the newspaper Večer that his election on Friday was celebrated in front of the parliament building with Russian flags, calling them misleading and unrelated to his election.

“Every Friday, a Slovenian-Russian friendship gathering is held there, and no member of Resni.ca has ever attended those gatherings,” Stevanović said.

Speaking about his election, he said he owes nothing to the Social Democratic Party (SDS), which supported him in parliament on Friday, and that he will support any prime minister candidate who first gathers enough votes and aligns their program with his party’s platform.

According to Stevanović, the party does not want to be held responsible for any political crisis, which is why it would support either Freedom Movement leader Robert Golob or SDS leader Janez Janša, as long as they secure enough parliamentary support and align their program with Resni.ca.

“When forming a government, we will not look left or right. We will focus solely on substance and will only support a government that reduces taxes, improves living standards, and is fully committed to fighting corruption with concrete solutions,” he said.
