Ljubljana mayor arrested on suspicion of corruption

LJUBLJANA Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic was arrested in one of the largest corruption probes, Slovenia’s police have stated. His two sons, Jure and Damjan, were also arrested. Ljubljana mayor arrested on suspicion of corruption As a part of the investigation of corruption and economic crime, the Slovenian police searched the mayor’s house and another 21 locations in the city. According to media, the police also sealed off entrances to the city offices so employees could not report to work. According to unofficial information, the police are conducting the investigation into the sale of land and construction of the Stozice sports center. According to some reports, the police also searched the home of Jankovic’s associate Jadranka Dakic and officials of two companies that built the sports center. According to the media, Jankovic committed three criminal offences – abuse of office, falsification of business documents and incurring damages to creditors. According to the Tax Administration information, the Ljubljana mayor abused office, incurring damages to the city and allowing his companies and companies owned by his family members to obtain large financial gain.
