Russia will support Serbia's initiative to have an investigation into illegal trafficking in human organs in Kosovo under the UN umbrella. This is according to Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin, who spoke during a Moscow-New York video press conference on Tuesday. Russia supports UN-umbrella Kosovo organ probe "The EULEX mission in Kosovo is unable to handle the situation alone and Russia will support the Serbian initiative for an investigation under the UN umbrella," he said. "The UN Security Council recently listened to a report about the Kosovo situation and an impasse prevailed," Churkin said, Itar-Tass reports. Russia calls for further international presence in Kosovo and its stand is that no decisions or steps can be taken without the consent of the Serbs, he said. "All the competence" Meanwhile in Kosovo, Head of EULEX Kosovo Xavier Bout de Marnhac commented on Tuesday on a statement by former Chief Hague Proecutor Carla Del Ponte that she was prepared to the investigation into human organ trafficking in Kosovo if carried out under the auspices of the UN. Carla Del Ponte was free to say whatever she wanted, said Marnac. "EULEX is already working on the case, and we are ready to conduct the investigation and we have all the competence to do so," de Marnhac said for KIM Radio, which is based in Caglavica, a village and Serb enclave near Pristina. He said that EULEX was working on the investigation into the trafficking in human organs in Kosovo and that the EU rule of law mission in Kosovo had all the competences required to investigate allegations of illegal human organ trade. The head of EULEX announced his coming to Belgrade "to discuss the issue of judges for the case", according to a Tanjug news agency report. Serbia insists that any investigation into the atrocities allegedly perpetrated by the province's ethnic Albanian KLA in 1999 and 2000 against Serb and other civilians should be conducted under the auspices of the UN.
