Coordinator for northern Kosovo strategy

Kosovo Albanian Prime Minister Hashim Thaci appointed Ilber Hisa as coordinator for implementation of the so-called strategy for northern Kosovo. “The appointment is part of the Kosovo government endeavors for restoring law and order in the north of the country,” a statement said. Hisa is an official of the ORA party, which joined the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo two days ago, and was a member of the Kosovo Albanian delegation to the failed negotiations with Serbia in Vienna on Kosovo status. The plan to bring Serbs in northern parts of the province – who reject the Kosovo Albanian unilateral declaration of independence – under Pristina's control was announced by the Kosovo Albanian government, and the International Civilian Office (ICO). Reports from Pristina said that Pieter Feith, who heads the ICO, welcomed Hisa's appointment. According to reports, the Dutch diplomat spoke in his role as ICO chief. He also holds another position in Kosovo, that of EU special representative.
