CAIRO Adli Mansour was on Thursday sworn in as interim head of state at the Supreme Constitutional Court in Cairo, Egypt. This came a day after the military overthrew President Muhamed Morsi in a coup. Egypt has new, interim president in wake of coup In comments made after the ceremony, Mansour said that Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood were "part of the people and were welcome to help build the nation," Reuters is quoting the website of the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper. "The Muslim Brotherhood group is part of this people and are invited to participate in building the nation as nobody will be excluded, and if they responded to the invitation, they will be welcomed," he said. Meanwhile, Itar-Tass is reporting that the European Union urged all opposition parties in Egypt "to return to the normal democratic process by holding early free and fair presidential elections" as soon as possible. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton also called on all parties "to exercise restraint and abstain from violence."
