"All editors" of Vojvodina's provincial broadcaster "sacked"

Belgrade-based daily Danas has said it learned unofficially that "all editors of Radio-Television Vojvodina (RTV) have been dismissed."

"All editors" of Vojvodina's provincial broadcaster "sacked"

President of the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS) posted on Twitter that at RTV, decisions about assigning journalists to new jobs are "literally given in the corridor."

Previously, RTV executive board issued a statement saying that editor-in-chief of the television's channel 1 Mirjana Jovic had resigned and that her acting replacement was Nada Kalkan.

Recently, the board dismissed program director Slobodan Arezina, who said the move was "political pressure."

Several days later RTV general director Srdjan Mihajlovic resigned, and said in a written statement he thought this was in the broadcaster's interest.

RTV journalists also issued statements to say they were worried that "sudden personnel changes that have not been clearly explained" could jeopardize its hard-earned reputation and citizens' trust.

In an open letter, more than 40 journalists and editors said they wished to "preserve an atmosphere where they can work free from political pressure."

The RTV program council said on Monday that the managing team of the provincial public broadcaster "performed well."
