EULEX mandate extended for another two years

The release issued by the EU Council states that EULEX will accelerate the transfer of activities to other European bodies and local institutions in the next two years and that it will focus on capacity development and security in Kosovo.

EULEX will also monitor the implementation of agreements on northern Kosovo reached by Belgrade and Priština in the dialogue.

EULEX should gradually abandon its executive functions in the judiciary sector but it will continue monitoring the development of rule of law in Kosovo, it was also said.

The EULEX mission was launched in 2008 "in order to help the Kosovo government to establish rule of law, especially in terms of the police, courts and customs," Tanjug said.
