Serbian government’s EU Integration Office Director Milica Delevic expects the European Commission to grant Serbia the EU candidate status on October 12. She added that the start date for the accession talks could be given as well, but with additional requirements. “Date for accession talks with additional conditions” “Additional conditions could include the continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which Serbia is already doing,” she stated, adding the government insisted on normalizing the relations and carrying on with the dialogue. Delevic hopes the meeting of the Council of the EU early December will result in the start date for the accession talks. "I do not expect a different outcome on October 12, since Serbia has done a lot regarding European integration during the past decade," she remarked speaking at a Raiffeisen Bank business conference. According to a Reuters report from Tuesday, the European Commission will recommend that Serbia be granted the candidate status, but the start date for the accession negotiations will require progress in the talks with Pristina. The report stated that the start date for the talks would effectively be postponed by one year, which would be needed to allow the European Commission to prepare a report on whether the new condition has been fulfilled.
