The of the killer, who was himself shot and killed by police, is being withheld. It was officially announced only that he was between 30 and 40 years of age, "a white man residing in Wisconsin". The investigation was therefore taken over by the FBI. The gunman entered during morning prayers at the temple in the town of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and opened fire, killing four people, while outside the building he killed two more men. The attacker was later shot and wounded a policeman, after which he was killed. Three persons are in critical condition after the attack. The FBI is now checking the shooter's past and his activities on the Internet, hoping to discover his motive. Officials say it is too early to what prompted the attack. U.S. President Barack Obama and his Republican rival for the presidency Mitt Romney condemned the incident in separate statements and expressed condolences to the Sikh community in America.
