After the assault on French nationals and threats of violence that led to canceling the Pride Parade, calls to prohibit extremist organizations are reemerging. Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas recently called on state institutions to ban all organizations that promote and encourage violence. Calls reemerge for banning extremist groups Justice Minister Snezana Malovic said that her ministry initiated the banning of neo-Nazi group Nacionalni Stroj last October. “And in the coming period, whereever there is a legal basis for it, we will work in that direction. I expect a decision by the constructional court on our first initiative soon,” she said. Milan Antonijevic of the Committee of Attorneys for Human Rights told B92 that he hopes that the state will take the problem more seriously this time and prohibit the work of such organizations. He said that there are already two such initiatives that have been issued, one by the Justice Ministry and one by the Human and Minority Rights Ministry. “A lot of documentation has been given to the prosecution with proof of why organizations such as 1389 should be banned. Unfortunately, the prosecution has not reacted to these demands and I hope that now, with more pressure from the public, and these events themselves, they will react differently and initiate the process,” Antonijevic said.
