Cypriot President Demetris Christofias is pleased by cooperation with Serbia and says the two countries have helped each other during difficult times. “Even during times when international law was violated by other countries. In other words, [our countries] stand shoulder to shoulder until a final solution is reached for a problem,” said Christofias, who was on a two-day official visit here this week, in an interview with Politika. Cyprus president pleased with cooperation “I was very clearly informed by President [Boris] Tadic that Serbia has a vision to enter the European Union. That is the decision of the Serbian people and your government and we support and respect that effort and that vision,” he said. “Additionally, we believe that it is neither just nor fair to tie Kosovo recognition to Serbia’s EU accession. Cyprus understands all too well Serbia’s position on Kosovo, as well as the principle and flexibility which your government has shown in finding a solution to this problem,” emphasized the Cypriot president. Speaking on cooperation between the two countries, Christofias said the possibilities were huge “Looking at the historical and political relations which connect the two countries, I would say there is a vast space before us in economic, cultural and all other spheres. During every conversation I’ve had with your leadership we’ve reached the conclusion that there are serious possibilities for advancing all of these said relations,” the president emphasized.
