Belgrade hosting EU integration conference

A one-day conference organized by the Civic Initiatives NGO in cooperation with the EU Integration Fund has begun in Belgrade. The conference entitled “Building partnership relations between the NGO Sector and Public Administration in the EU Integration Process” is being financed by the EU via the EU Integration Fund. Belgrade hosting EU integration conference Civic Initiatives Managing Director Miljenko Dereta opened the conference, saying that the idea was to show that “through the experience of others, Serbia knows how to go through the necessary changes” on its EU path. He said that the project’s objectives were to galvanize the consensus over European integration in Serbia, and to increase citizens’ support for the EU integration process by creating an environment for them to participate in public debates. Pawel Swieboda, the director of the demosEUROPA Center for European Strategies, told the summit about the Polish EU integration experience. He added that Poland had gone through three levels during its EU integration process – harmonizing a united platform within the Polish authorities, negotiations with EU officials, and conducting opinion polls. The conference is also being attended by Director of the Serbian EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic, Head of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration’s Information Department Pero Belisic, Balkan Civil Society Development Network Coordinator Tanja Hafner Ademi, Strategic Marketing Research Director Svetlana Logar, as well as other NGO representatives from the region.
