Serbia, Bulgaria sign military agreement

Speaking at a press conference held after the signing of the agreement, Šutanovac said that the agreement was the most important part of his visit to Bulgaria and a political precondition for cooperation between armies of the two states.

“The Serbian Army can be a bridge towards European and Euro Atlantic integrations and has an interest in educating its officers abroad,” Šutanovac said according to the government website.

He also asked his Bulgarian counterpart to facilitate the visa regime for Serbian citizens because that has effect on army members as well.

Minister Bliznakov stressed that cooperation between the two countries had “a great future,” since it contributes to regional stability and inclusion of Serbia into Euro-Atlantic integration.

Bliznakov added that Bulgaria supported and will continue to support Serbia’s active participation in the Partnership for Peace program.

Šutanovac is also scheduled to meet with Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.

The meetings mark Šutanovac's first visit to Bulgaria since he assumed office.
