World Suicide prevention day

Each year 900,000 persons commit suicide all over the world. That amounts to more deaths than those recorded as a result of wars and murders. It is believed that the number is even higher, since the term “suicide” often does not appear in police reports.

As many as 250.000 suicides are committed by pesticide ingestion. This is a preferred method of suicide in rural Asian regions.

WHO therefore advises that the pesticide storage sites be placed under special surveillance, and that the medical workers be trained in providing adequate help in pesticide suicide cases.
