German minister says Britain's EU departure "unimaginable"

"The EU without the UK is absolutely not acceptable, unimaginable. Therefore we have to do everything, so that the interests and the positions of the UK find themselves sufficiently (represented) in European politics," Reuters quoted him as saying.

According to the conservative minister, there is "a wide consensus" when it comes to many issues concerning administration and economy.

Some British media and analysts believe that the country is "closer" to ending its membership in the EU after Jean-Claude Juncker was appointed as the next European Commission president.

Only Britain and Hungary out of EU's 28 member-states opposed Juncker appointment.
