The Turkish police have arrested more than 30 persons suspected of ties with Kurdish rebels, who are fighting for their people's autonomy. The arrests mark continuation of an operation conducted by security forces, that saw several hundred persons detained recently. Turkey arrests journalists from Kurdish media They included mayors suspected of having ties with the banned Kurdish PKK party, that has been engaged in armed struggle for Kurds' autonomy and their rights and freedoms. Turkey accuses them of separatism and terrorism. The Turkish police have not commented on the latest arrests. The pro-Kurdish Firat news agency is reporting that several journalists that work for Kurdish media outlets are among those detained on Tuesday. In the fighting thus far between Turkey's forces and Kurdish rebels more than 40,000 people died - most of them civilians. Of that country's 75 million people, 12 million are Kurds.
