Dutch politician Geert Wilders goes on trial today in Amsterdam on charges of inciting racial hatred against Muslims. The trial comes as Wilders' Party of Freedom prepares to work with the Netherlands' new ruling coalition. Anti-Islam Dutch leader goes on trial Wilders campaigns for a ban on the burqa - the head-to-toe covering for women that some conservative Muslims advocate - and an end to Muslim immigration, and has made numerous provocative statements against Muslims. If convicted, he faces up to 16 months in prison and a fine of up to 10,000 euros. A verdict is expected early next month. In the country's general election in June, Wilders' party won 24 of the 150 seats in parliament and the new ruling center-right minority coalition will depend on its support to pass decisions in the legislature.
