Nine Afghan police officers were killed in a shootout with a special forces unit of Afghanistan's army that took place in the south of the country. The Kandahar provincial police chief, the criminal investigations chief and seven of their policemen died after being shot by members of the elite army unit, trained by American experts, the province's council head, Ahmad Wali Karzai, told reporters. Afghanistan: Soldiers kill 9 policemen The soldiers raided the prefecture in Kandahar and took a prisoner with them by force. The identity of the prisoner has not been revealed. As they were making their way out of the building, the shootout took place, Karzai said. The coalition forces deployed in Afghanistan were not involved in the clash, reports said.

The soldiers raided the prefecture in Kandahar and took a prisoner with them by force. The identity of the prisoner has not been revealed.As they were making their way out of the building, the shootout took place, Karzai said.
