NOVI SAD Two hospitals on Tuesday received new equipment worth half a million euros, donated by businessman Milan Popovic. Equipment worth EUR 200,000 went to the the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the Clinical Center of Vojvodina (Betanija), while the Institute for Health Protection of Children and Youth (Pediatric Clinic) received a donation worth EUR 300,000. Businessman donates half million euros to B92 campaign This large donation fully resolved the needs of the two clinics, so both were declared victorious in B92 Fund's Battle for Maternity Wards humanitarian campaign. Milan Popovic and Chairman of the B92 Fund Veran Matic first visited Betanija, where they were met by the clinic administrator, Professor Doctor Dragan Stajic, and then went to the Children's Hospital, where they were welcomed by the director of the Institute, Professor Doctor Slobodan Grebeldinger. During the visit to the Children's Clinic, guests were joined by the president of the Vojvodina government, Bojan Pajtic, who on behalf of the provincial authorities thanked the businessman for all he has done for the maternity wards in Vojvodina as part of the Battle of the Babies and the Battle for Maternity Wards. On that occasion he also expressed his gratitude for all Popovic has done for Vojvodina's health facilities in this action in which he has fully equipped three maternity hospitals, a children's hospital, and so far donated equipment worth a total of EUR 840,000 for this region, and a total of over EUR 1.2mn in the whole of Serbia in the past year and a half. Milan Popovic placed the donor plaques on the supplied equipment today and pointed out that the date was chosen on purpose, because it is the first birthday of his son, Aleksander. He noted that he hoped, "although children often do not follow the advice of their parents", that his son would continue with the same kind of humanitarian involvement when the time comes. Veran Matic urged donors to join those who like Milan Popovic chose to donate to Serbia's future, for better conditions for the birth of children, greater security and better conditions for parenthood, and the work of health professionals. "Much depends in Serbia today on the development of charity, because poverty is spreading fast not only when it comes to the citizens, but also institutions. Charity dooes good not only to us but to our descendants." Veran Matic also congratulated the first birthday of his son to Milan Popovic by presenting him with a miniature Baby Hero Medal.
