Snow, ice and snowdrifts have halted traffic on roads in Vojvodina’s Banat and eastern Serbia.

BELGRADE Snow, ice and snowdrifts have halted traffic on roads in Vojvodina’s Banat and eastern Serbia. More than 130 persons were evacuated last night, including children and ill persons. Snow halts traffic in northern, eastern Serbia The Novi Becej-Basaid, Sutjeska-Krajisnik-Jasa Tomic and Torak-Banatsko Visnjicevo are completely closed today due to snow and ice. Strong wind created snowdrifts in Banat on Saturday. The most difficult situation was in the towns of Zrenjanin, Vrsac and Kovacice where most of local roads were covered with snow. The wind calmed down during the night, making it easier to clear the roads. A road between the eastern town of Majdanpek and Donji Milanovac is impassable. All major roads in other parts of Serbia have been cleared. Traffic in mountain areas is slow due to snow on the roads. The Novi Bečej-Bašaid, Sutjeska-Krajišnik-Jaša Tomić and Torak-Banatsko Višnjićevo are completely closed today due to snow and ice.

Strong wind created snowdrifts in Banat on Saturday. The most difficult situation was in the towns of Zrenjanin, Vršac and Kovačice where most of local roads were covered with snow. The wind calmed down during the night, making it easier to clear the roads.

A road between the eastern town of Majdanpek and Donji Milanovac is impassable.
