Another victim of freezing in Serbia was found in a farming household in a village close to the town of Petrovac na Mlavi. The MUP Emergency Sector officials confirmed that the elderly man was found outdoors, and that he died of exposure to cold. 15 victims as extreme cold weather continues Another person, whose body was found today near Kragujevac, is suspected to have frozen to death, but this is yet to be confirmed. Earlier in the day, Emergency Situations Sector chief Predrag Maric told Tanjug that "a total of 190 people, including a 20-day-old baby in the central Serbian town of Brus, have been evacuated and saved since the beginning of the cold snap in Serbia." He added that the emergency sector would continue the operation aimed at assisting municipalities that are severely affected by the freeze, and recalled that an emergency situation has been declared in 38 municipalities. Maric told B92 that a total of 88 heavy machines, including 53 military ones, and more than 1,500 soldiers had been engaged in clearing up and rescue operations. “Helicopters are distributing foodstuffs to citizens in the most affected areas on a daily basis,” he explained. Maric said that the Serbian Army (VS) was expected to decide on Thursday how to solve the issue of ice that had partially formed on rivers, especially on the Ibar River where the situation is the most critical. “An elderly woman froze to death in the northeastern village of Padina,” Emergency Sector’s Goran Nikolic told Tanjug, specifying that the woman was found in the evening hours of February 7, but that the death had been reported on Wednesday, after the police had arrived on the scene. He recalled that another woman died on the same day in Belgrade's neighborhood Banjica, when a heap of snow and ice fell from the roof and killed her instantly. The Red Cross of Serbia on Thursday announced it would send help worth CHF 200,000, which includes food, toiletries, blankets and warm shoes, to the families in need. Extremely low temperatures were recorded in Serbia on Thursday morning. The lowest temperature was recorded in Novi Sad and Negotin, minus 27 degrees Celsius.
