Serbian police union ends strike

The Police Union of Serbia (PSS) ended its strike late Tuesday, after reaching an agreement with Interior Minister Ivica Dačić on fulfillment of their requests.

The Police Union of Serbia (PSS) ended its strike late Tuesday, after reaching an agreement with Interior Minister Ivica Dacic on fulfillment of their requests. Dacic said after the meeting that there was no need to continue the strike since the agreement was made. Serbian police union ends strike He added that the Interior Ministry and the Serbian government's stand was that the position of police officers should be resolved systematically, which implied improvement of financial position, equipment and the status of policemen in the society. The minister also said that the government had adopted the bill amending the Law on Police, which would make sure that a special collective agreement for police officers be implemented as of 2012. “This will be the first time in Interior Ministry's history that such collective agreement was signed, and it is necessary to take all the steps needed for its realization,” Dacic noted. He stated that it was agreed that the new systematization be completed in keeping with all the needs, as well as the equipping of the policemen. PSS President Veljko Mijailovic said that the trade union was "more than satisfied with the agreement reached with the minister." Mijailovic told Tanjug that the Serbian government had verified the amendments to the Law on Police on Tuesday, adding that the amendments would soon be available to the Serbian assembly. The strike ended after 16 days, the president of the representative trade union said, adding that all requests were fulfilled at the meeting.
