The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) is alarmed by the erosion of freedom of expression in Serbia, the EFJ said at the Annual EFJ Assembly in Belgrade. The EFJ also added that it was concerned about constant political and economic pressures on journalists and their lack of trade union rights. EFJ alarmed by position of journalists in Serbia The Annual EFJ Meeting expressed support for the struggle of the Serbian journalists to push media owners into negotiating collective agreements guaranteeing labor rights. It called on the Serbian authorities to end the impunity enjoyed by the murderers of journalists Dada Vujasinovic, Slavko Curuvija and Milan Pantic. It is unacceptable that three investigative journalists in Serbia have to live under 24-hour police protection and that others suffer attacks while judges are lenient with their assailants, the EFJ pointed out. The EFJ noted at the meeting which was held on June 15-17 in Belgrade, that each year the Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) and the Union of Journalists of Serbia (SNS) mark April 23 as a Day of Remembrance for 16 media workers killed in the 1999 NATO bombing of Radio Television Serbia (RTS) to which the support of EFJ affiliates is welcomed.
