Although cucumbers were ruled out several days ago as the source of the German E.coli outbreak, Serbia's authorities are testing cucumbers for the bacteria. Thus, the results of emergency controls in five towns in Serbia have shown that the cucumbers sold there are not infected with the bacteria, and that all samples are safe for consumption, Tanjug reported, quoting the Ministry of Agriculture and Trade. "No E. coli in cucumbers in Serbian market" Emergency tests were carried out at wholesale markets in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac and Zrenjanin, said the statement. It added that samples were also taken from tomatoes, lettuce and zucchinis. As for bean sprouts - currently believed to be the most likely source of the epidemic - the ministry said on Monday that Serbia imported none from Germany. As for bean sprouts - currently believed to be the most likely source of the epidemic - the ministry said on Monday that Serbia imported none from Germany.

The outbreak in Germany has killed 21 people thus far.
