The Belgrade City Assembly has unanimously made a decision to name a street after murdered journalist and publisher Slavko Curuvija. The decision to name the second part of the Baje Pivljanina Street in Belgrade's Dedinje neighborhood after the journalist was supported by representatives of all political parties. Street named after murdered journalist The initiative was launched by the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) whose President Ljiljana Smajlovic did not hide her excitement when she said the search for the truth about Curuvija’s murder would not end with the gesture: “Our next question must be directed at the Prosecution for Organized Crime: will the prosecutor inform us whether it is possible that he was not informed about such an important lead regarding the murder of Slavko Curuvija, which was submitted to the Association of Journalists of Serbia, in a statement from one of the people from the underground who had the information - Milos Simovic who apparently knew something about the murder that the Serbian public did not know,” she was quoted as saying. “We still think that aprobe into the investigation of Slavko Curuvija's murder is necessary,” Smajlovic added. The journalist and publisher of daily Dnevni Telegraf and bi-weekly Evropljanin was gunned down in front of his home on April 11, 1999. The perpetrators still have not been found.
