Kosovo Liberation Army veterans have been on hunger strike for three days now in Pristina, calling on the government to take care of them and their families. The group of veterans, part of the Council for the Protection of KLA Members’ Rights, are demanding the implementation of the Law on Protection of the War’s Values, and want the government to take care of the families of fallen warriors and war invalids. KLA veterans on hunger strike “We want accommodation for invalids, war veterans and the families of the fallen, treatment for the seriously wounded, and some other demands like electricity, water and other benefits,” said council chairman Xhevdet Qeriqi. The first two meetings between Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and council representatives failed to yield any results. Contact with Thaci resumed yesterday, with KLA veterans expecting a final response from the prime minister. The strikers say that they will not back down until their demands are met, warning that they are prepared to change the form of their protests if the government fails to offer a solution.
