The Roma Party has met with Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic. According to a statement, party representatives and officials from other Roma organizations held a meeting late on Thursday with Djelic, where they discussed the definition of an institutional framework for the improvement of Roma's status and the implementation of a Decade of Roma Inclusion in Serbia. Serbia to implement Decade of Roma Inclusion The Roma representatives informed Djelic of their aspirations regarding the creation of an institutional framework for the resolution of the problems facing the 500,000-strong Roma community in Serbian, the statement said. “Since only the government is authorized to set up secretariats and nominate officials within them, and since up to now it has done nothing in that respect, we expect the government to set up a body, to be funded by the state, which would deal with the improvement of the status of Roma and the implementation of the Decade of Roma Inclusion,“ the Roma representatives stated.
