The Anti-Discrimination Coalition has released a statement regarding recent attacks on homosexuals in Belgrade. The organization states that citizens of all sexual orientations have equal rights in Serbia, and that the Constitution guarantees equal treatment for all citizens. The incidents in question occurred on October 12 and November 3, when guests at the Alijans club were attacked by a gang of young men. Another attack occurred on November 3, when tear gas was thrown into the VIP club, frequented by homosexuals. “The Law on the Police states clearly that police services must work in accordance with international acts that stipulate that their duties be carried out without any discrimination,” the statement reads. The coalition expects state institutions to take all the necessary measures to secure the rights and safety of all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation.
