The Kosovo status crisis has reached sports, with the Serbian FA preparing to lodge a protest with UEFA and FIFA. Serbian Football Association (FSS) chief Zoran Lakovic said Friday the country's top football body will not allow the self-proclaimed Soccer Association of Kosovo to organize or play international matches. Kosovo crisis spills to football Lakovic told reporters that Kosovo's national squad could engage in international matches only if the European Football Association, UEFA, and the International Football Federation (FIFA) give permission. "At this point, the Kosovo team cannot play anywhere in the world, not even as a regional squad, unless the Soccer Association of Kosovo requests and receives permission from the FSS first," he said. "Since we have learned that the Kosovo team has already played two matches, against Albania and Saudi Arabia, and that they are scheduled to shortly play in Germany, early next week the FSS will dispatch a strong protest note to UEFA and FIFA demanding protection of our rights," Lakovic said.
