Rasim Delić’s trial begins in July

South African judge Moloto, who will be the presiding judge in this trial, indicated that it might start a few days earlier.

The prosecution witness lists has about 70 names, but the prosecution has filed a motion seeking leave to add 12 more names, indicating it would drop some names from the original list.

The prosecution estimates that its case – including the cross-examination of the witnesses by the defense – may take between 4.5 to 5 months. General Delić’s defense has asked for the same amount of time for its case.

Former Chief of the Bosnian Army General Staff is charged with the crimes committed by members of the El Mujahid unit between June 1993 and September 1995.

The El Mujahid unit was set up on Delić’s orders and was subordinated to the 3rd Corps. Delić is charged on the basis of command responsibility for the failure to prevent or punish the crimes committed by the mujahedin.

The accused was not present at the status conference today because he has been provisionally released pending trial.
