Mayor of the Croatian town of Pozega Vedran Neferovic (HDZ) on Friday physically assaulted a reporter working for a local website.

Mirkovic said that Neferovic shouted, cursed, and kicked him, threatening to kill him "and all the rest (of the staff)."

The website is reporting that it is "still unknown" what prompted the attack that happened during a press conference called to honor the town's best nurse.

The local branch of the SDP party condemned the incident as "disgraceful," urging citizens "to raise their voices against such behavior," and the police to carry out an impartial investigation.
