BELGRADE Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has stated that genocide lawsuitsuits "are not crucial for relations" between Serbia and Croatia. Croatia's lawsuit and Serbia's counter-suit were filed before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague "Lawsuits not crucial for Serbia-Croatia relations" "It is up to the governments to deliver a decision on that. This requires both motive and courage. The important factor is also how the public would react to a dropping of the lawsuits, or to some conditions that would have to be met for that to happen. But, I do not think that these lawsuits are crucial for our relations," Josipovic said in an interview to the Sunday issue of the Belgrade-based daily Politika. Following Croatia's EU entry, nothing essential has changed in its relations with Serbia, Josipovic said, noting that Zagreb and Belgrade are still committed to opening up new prospects for cooperation. Serbia and Croatia are still dedicated to resolving the problems that remain after the war of the 1990s and the break-up of the former Yugoslavia in their bilateral relations, but also to opening up new opportunities for cooperation, he said. Josipovic underscored that Croatia will be an ally to Serbia along its road toward the EU. "It is our sovereign assessment that the EU membership of all regional countries is primarily in our own interest. As regards resolving open issues on equal terms, Croatia will certainly not use blackmails to achieve some inappropriate goal," he said.
