A 10-meter long whale was spotted on Thursday 150 meters off the shore in the town of Rijeka, Croatian media reported Friday. The large sea mammal was photographed by a local from the terrace of his home, Rijeka-based daily Novi List reported. 10-meter whale spotted in northern Adriatic Experts at the Blue World Institute for Sea Research believe the animal is most likely a fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus), which lives in the Mediterranean Sea and is often spotted in the southern and middle Adriatic Sea, but rarely this far up north. Before this sighting, a fin while was last found in the Bay of Biscay in 2002, where it died, according to the institute.
