Bosnian Croat Slavko Sakic has pleaded not guilty to war crimes before the Bosnian courts. Sakic, along with other members of the Croatian Defense Council’s (HVO) Special Operations Unit, is accused of participating in the arrests of Bosniak civilians in Vrbanja, in Bugojno municipality, in July 1993. Bosnian Croat pleads not guilty to war crimes The indictment states that Bosniak civilians were held captive in the basement of the Aquarium motel in Bugojno, and that Sakic forcibly took money and gold jewelry from them. Sakic and other members of the unit are also accused of participating in the torture of captured civilians, causing them severe injuries in the process.
