Slovenian PM Janez Jansa and FM Dimitrij Rupel are urging EU officials to sign the SAA with Bosnia-Herzegovina. Jansa and Rupel, whose country is presiding over the EU, have sent a letter to Brussels in which they state that “technical problems should not present obstacles to signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Bosnia-Herzegovina and the EU, something that could have very serious political repercussions.” Slovenia lobbies for Bosnian EU membership Daily Dnevni Avaz reports today that in the letter, the Slovenian ministers say that Bosnia-Herzegovina has fulfilled the condition for signing the SAA with the EU by adopting police reforms in the Bosnian parliament and that, as a sign of appreciation for that move, the agreement should be signed immediately, on April 28, as earlier planned. Jansa and Rupel stated that they understood that there were technical problems, such as the lack of time to translate the SAA into all 22 EU languages, so they have proposed to sign the agreement with the text in English, should it prove impossible to translate the agreement into all the languages of the member states before that date. They have sent the letter to EU High Representative Javier Solana and President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso. According to the Sarajevo daily, their proposal has already been considered by all the EU member states and all, except France, have agreed to the proposal. The translation of the agreement’s text would continue until the ratification of the agreement in the EU member-states' parliaments.
