"Why is Vucic postponing formation of new government?"

"We can only guess whether it's about Vucic's dilemmas related to the final composition of the coalition, the personnel solutions, Moscow's demand, expressed in front of the media, and the possible reaction from western countries," he told Belgrade-based daily Danas, and added:

"It's also possible that he is deliberately extending the duration of the caretaker government so that he can make decisions alone that would under regular circumstances require participation of other actors."

Tadic said he expected Vucic's new cabinet to continue the same policy - the one the PM-designate "presented to citizens with the assistance of corrupt media and analysts as an incredible success, economically greater than the German, while in reality we have economic growth lower than Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro..."

Vucic has postponed the formation of a new government several times, while top officials of his SNS party, which has 131 seats in Serbia's 250-seat parliament - enough to form a government alone - say it will be done "within the legal deadline."

This deadline will expire 90 days after June 3, when mandates of people's deputies in the new National Assembly were confirmed.

Tadic, who was in the past the leader of the Democratic Party (DS), was also asked whether Dragan Djilas, who replaced him in that role, "could once again become the mayor of Belgrade." He replied by saying that if that happens, "it would herald a long-lasting friendship between Djilas and Vucic."
