"Today, when journalists are under various forms of pressure - economic, political - when they are fighting for their place among readers, I think we have to be understanding, on the one hand, of the needs of Serbia, on the other, the media and journalists themselves," said Jovanovic .

He added that "regardless of the government trying to convince us that there is no censorship in Serbia, it is clear that one bites one's own tongue when thinking of saying something outloud, fearing the consequences of one's opinion."

"The first step, of course, must be the democratization of society, and I invite everyone to participate in elections, to vote in accordance with their convictions, to be tolerant and, among other things, show solidarity with journalists, because they are our means of reaching freedom to which Serbia should have the right and of which there can never be enough," said the president of the LDP.

Tadic said that journalists are "a prerequisite of democracy" and that the relationship between politics and media is very important for the democratization of society.

"We now have an abuse of the media, we are witnessing an engineering by which people, individuals, citizens of this country, should be convinced that poor economic figures are good figures, that we have a great perspective," said he.

"All economic figures clearly testify to the fact that a better future is not awaiting Serbia, as say the prime minister and members of the government and the ruling coalition. Serbia is facing a very difficult future and so it is my plea to the media to show the reality to citizens, the way things really are, rather than in any way participate in the illusion perpetrated by the government," Tadic concluded.
