Kosovo Office chief comments on platform for chapter 35

Marko Djuric said on Tuesday that "some easing" of <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics.php?yyyy=2015&mm=12&dd=15&nav_id=96368" class="text-link" target= "_blank">EU's platform for chapter 35</a> had taken place, compared to the first draft.

"There has been some easing compared to the first draft. Given that there is a large number of EU member states who have recognized the unilateral independence of Kosovo, there is no doubt that difficult negotiations lie ahead," Djuric said, adding that "the platform is what it is - but does not ask explicitly for Serbia to recognize Kosovo."

Djuric also that the text of the platform for chapter 35 has been published and that it was "a very difficult chapter," but according to the Beta agency, he pointed out that "Serbia is not in talks with Kosovo only because of European integration."

"Chapter 35 is for us extremely difficult, because it is some way links normalization of relations with our southern province and European integration. We have shown that it is possible to, as a reliable partner, make progress in negotiations in spite of Pristina's obstructions," he said.

Djuric noted that EU's "platform" seeks implementation and review of agreements reached so far and leaves room for EU institutions and member states to interpret in what way agreements should be implemented. "There are certain risks for Serbia in that process," Djuric remarked.

Commenting on statements that chapter 35 was "the blocking one," Djuric said: "All chapters in the dialogue carry with them the possibility that if there are big disagreements between those countries seeking admission and those deciding on it, the process can be stopped."
