"Serbia had more important things than elections"
Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader and outgoing PM Ivica Dačić has said the SPS believes "Serbia had more important things to do than go for an election."

He said he did not regret serving as prime minister for only 18 months, as he "managed during that time to rebuild Serbia's international reputation, cut the Gordian Knot related to Kosovo, start the negotiations with the EU, bring South Stream to Serbia and become a candidate for the Nobel Prize."When asked if changing the prime minister had been the reason for the snap election, Dačić responded: "That is another wrong topic today."
"Anyway, I asked (First Deputy PM) Aleksandar Vučić if he wanted us to swap places, precisely in order to get the answer to that question. He decided to go for an election. We will therefore get a new prime minister after that and it will be the person with enough votes and potential to form the government. That is a fact. Everything else is needless speculation," Dačić told the daily Danas.
"The election was called only six to seven days after Serbia's greatest success in recent history, the start of the accession talks with the EU," Dačić pointed out.
"But I am still satisfied. That success has been recorded and will remain, just as I will remain as the prime minister who was given the keys to the door of Europe. That cannot be erased," he noted.
