BELGRADE The president of the provincial assembly of Vojvodina has voiced his belief that Serbia will get a date for the start of EU accession talks in April. Istvan Pastor, who is also the leader of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM), added that there was "no reason to call early elections in the province, because the current parliament's mandate lasts until 2016." "Serbia will most probably get EU date in April" "After last week's meeting with Jelko Kacin, European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia, I am almost convinced that Serbia will get a date for the EU accession talks in April," Pastor said in an interview for Monday's edition of Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti. He stressed that the SVM and he, as the president of the party, have supported both the previous and the current government, and the Serbian president when it comes to talks on Kosovo and Metohija and efforts to join the EU. "I think that this government and President Tomislav Nikolic have made a better use of our support. This is an unexpected outcome, and it should be recognized and welcomed," he said. "However, not all issues will be closed by resolving these two.'The Vojvodina issue,' which is smoldering after the Constitutional Court's decision to cancel 23 jurisdictions, will also have to be discussed," he noted, adding that "the next priority is decentralization of Serbia." Asked why he advocates that Vojvodina's office does not stay at Serbia's mission in Brussels, Pastor said that Vojvodina "cannot allow that someone permits it one office with two desks in it." "We cannot adequately present ourselves to Europe in these conditions. I have been campaigning to ensure that all 45 Vojvodina's municipalities present themselves to Europe at least once a year and attract funds," he concluded.
