Democrats "dissolve city councils in wake of defeat"
The Democratic Party on Monday decided to dissolve its city council in Belgrade, along with councils in 11 of 17 capital city municipalities, Beta has reported.

The Democratic Party on Monday decided to dissolve its city council in Belgrade, along with councils in 11 of 17 capital city municipalities, Beta has reported. This came as a consequence of "poor election results in the second round of the presidential election", said the news agency. Democrats "dissolve city councils in wake of defeat" However, the DS city council in Belgrade told B92 that "this was something regular, unrelated to the elections", and that it had to do with "regular elections for city organs called by the party's Executive Counil last Wednesday". On Sunday, DS leader Boris Tadic lost his bid to be elected for a third term, in the runoff against SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic. According to unofficial results, Tadic received 47.35 percent of the vote, against Nikolic's 49.51 percent. Beta news agency is reporting that DS sources said the councils that were dissolved today include those in Rakovica, Zemun, and Cukarica. The Democrats have also scheduled a session of the party's presidency for late on Monday.
