The agreement that was reached with KFOR is “far” from what Belgrade wanted in the beginning, political analyst Dusan Janjic thinks. He has assessed that the issue of north Kosovo was launched “despite Belgrade’s plan and wishes”. “Agreement far from Belgrade’s wishes” “The agreement de facto does not envisage free trade,” Janjic added and said that Kosovo Albanian customs control would be present at the checkpoints aside from KFOR. He said that Serbs from north Kosovo had been against every agreement and that they were trying to act as independent negotiators at the moment. Janjic believes that northern Kosovo municipal representatives will accept the agreement that Belgrade reached with KFOR on Friday because they are “aware of further risk of staying at the barricades”. “The Serbian local authorities in north Kosovo are under big influence of the opposition, especially the DSS (Democratic Party of Serbia) and the Serbian National Council,” Janjic pointed out. He told Beta news agency that the outcome of the meeting between north Kosovo Serb and Serbian government representatives, that should begin at noon in Zvecan, would be important for Serbian President Boris Tadic’s rating.
